Memorial Day 2013

For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places. Therefore take unto you the armour of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and to stand in all things perfect.” (Eph. 6:12-13).

War is a great evil. It is a self-inflicted evil that brings upon human beings the greatest sufferings—separation from loved ones and death.

My prayer for this Memorial Day is that all war may cease immediately. May people who freely choose evil in any form repent of their choices and convert their hearts, minds, and wills to God.

May Our Lord, “Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.” May Our Lord free us now from every form of tyranny. May no one be enslaved to fight in war ever again. May He give us the courage and strength to eradicate from our society every bad law, every immoral pursuit, and every enticement to sin. May He heal us of the patterns and effects of sin.

For all those who offer and have offered their lives to oppose those who wage war to achieve unjust ends: may they live, fight, and die without stain of sin or dishonor. May God pour out his spirit upon them and strengthen them with faith, hope, love, and every virtue. May He heal them of every wound.

May God give peace to those who have sacrificed self, health, family, freedom, and livelihood that we may live in peace. And, may we realize that every conflict that is not resolved peaceably in thought, word, and deed, is an act of war. May God give us the grace to be able to live in such a way that every one of us can, say as St. Thomas more did in his letter to his daughter Margaret Roper, “I do nobody no harm, I say none harm, I think none harm, but wish everybody good.”

To all those who have served this nation, Thank You. May God bless you. May your souls rest in peace. May God give us the strength to honor you by living in freedom and hereafter preserving peace through peaceful means.  danjerjohn 5/25/13
